WELCOME ABOARD!
Whatever your interests in our maritime and naval heritage, the NHCRA
will provide you with links to other like-minded enthusiasts. Some are
keen collectors of memorabilia, medals, badges, photographs, postcards or,
for example, ships’ bells, while others research naval personnel, battles
or social history through the ages.
Many are keen family historians, others are retired RN and Merchant
officers and ratings who just enjoy reading our quarterly journal.
The Review
Numbers of our members – often after lengthy
research - contribute to the contents of our journal,
The Review, making it a rich
source of previously unpublished material. It contains a wide mix of
articles on naval matters from the 18th century to recent times.
The Review
also carries medal rolls and casualty lists on a regular basis, as well as
providing a forum for letters, queries, wants and appeals for research
information.
Research Services
The association also operates a popular
research service and, for modest fees, can offer officers’, ratings’ and
marines’ career details, honours and awards for both world wars and the
Korean War, and excellent chronologies of the WWII service of some 700
warships. In addition, a limited amount of general research into naval
engagements and other events can be undertaken, dependent on the
availability of records.
Our History
The NHCRA began in a modest way in 1988 when a small group
of naval enthusiasts decided there was no organisation catering for their
varied interests. Now the association has a world-wide membership bringing
together those interested in any aspect of naval history.
Aims and Objectives
Our primary mission is to provide a forum for naval buffs.
The association has formal recognition by the Royal
Navy and is a member of the Federation of Naval Associations, as well as
being a corporate member of the Society of Friends of the Royal Naval
Museum. It also lists among its members the major UK naval and maritime
museums. |
